Newport Saturday 9/6/2019

Anyone interested in Launching out of Newport Saturday morning?

Wanting to go out of the harbor and try for Rock fish or go a mile or two south and hit the kelp. I usually stay in the harbor and fish spotties so kind of an exploration trip.

I would take u up on it if I wasnt set on la Jolla. Lemme know how u do.

Fyi I been having more luck lately with a glow in the dark jig tip with mackerel strip than I have been lately with dropper loop squid or shrimp. I feel like the glow in the dark reflection off of the mackerel skin along with the scent of oily fish in the water gets them to bite aggressively in the dark and dirty water.
Anyone else have any luck with rockfish?

What weight jig head would you use? I assume something heavy since it’s being fished deep?

I have been having luck with a shimano flatfall....100 grams? I would guess 8 oz or better.

Or dropper loop with mack strip, 8 0z torpedo weight or better, with at least 20 lb mono leader. I use bigger hooks and longer mack strips to give it good action on the bounce and to keep from hooking smaller fish

Me and a few others are launching on Sunday morning at kid beach around 6am, feel free to join us. Heading to the deep water outside the harbor.

I’ll be in a sea green outback. Might just paddle down the coast and try the kelp if I don’t meet anyone. Never been rock fishing out there so not sure where to go.
