What tools do you have available and what is your level of competence with building? Budget?

I have the normal wrenches, screwdrivers, drill, etc. No saws etc. Really what i want is just like a PVC stand to rest the kayak on top up. It doesnt really need to have wheels. Dont need it to store anything other than support the kayak. Budget I dont know 50-75?

I was going to make some suggestions for building a cart and then I thought of a different idea. Why don't you look on craigslist/offer up/fb market place for a used tool cart. you can set the kayak on top and wheel it around, it'll be finished with some kind of powder coat or paint so it'll look nice in your garage, and you can use the drawers for storage (kayak related or not). Then you can resell the thing if you no longer need it and it wont be limited to kayak owners with a specific philosophy of use.
P.S. i just checked out offerup and theres quite a few carts for anywhere from 60-100 bucks

TOOL CART...??
Sounds good...but that tool cart would have to be at least 6 foot long and about 3' wide at a minimum to properly support a Hobie Outback kayak...I can't say I've seen too many 6' long tool carts.
Good Luck... Quote:

I've seen so much misinformation on storage of Hobies. I have a 2019 Outback, I currently store it on some saw horses which I padded. I store it upside per the manual. If I wish to store it upright, are these parallel bars the only way to go? I assume it relieves the stress points across the length of the hull instead of 2 crossbars.

Hobie Storage
The Photos are straight from the Hobie Owners manual included with each boat...
Upside down is the preferred Hobie storage method and on a couple of sawhorses is perfect. The alternate approved upright Hobie method is with the cradles with are about $250. BUT... ...off the record... IMHO...I've stored my Hobie's on the PVC pipes on my trailers for years, covered and outside. I haven't found any problems with deforming of the hull and it seems to work for me...

Jet ski cart/dolly
Idk why I didn't think of this, the company I work for used to manufacture these for Superior Watercraft. This one in the link looks pretty inexpensive and might be exactly what you are looking for.

what do the people who are far more smarter than me think about the cart pictured above? Will it support an Outback maintaining the integrity of the kayak?

Storing the thing upside down will probably be more beneficial than anything else you do aside from keeping it out of the sun/super hot environments. then a. you are storing it in the most structurally integral way as per the manual, and b. not storing it on any kind of pipes which is listed in the "do not" section of the manual.
