South Bay 12/7

Just a beautiful day in South SD Bay this morning. Sunny, warm, and calm. Went to J street and got on the water at the crack of 9:00. Paddled north and started fishing by the boat yard. Tried about every thing I had in the box but just plugged away at a slow steady bite no matter what I used. Moved around west and then south for the same slow bite. Caught maybe 15 bass and a 23" halibut. There are loads of birds in the south bay right now; brant, surf scoters, a couple kinds of grebes, ducks I couldn't identify, the usual terns/gulls/pelicans/cormorants, osprey, and a merganser. Don't think I've ever seen a merganser in the bay before. Saw a couple sea turtles. Super quiet down there with 0 kayaks, maybe 4 boats fishing, and 1 jet skier chasing the birds around at full throttle. Mike
