I almost bought one last year when Big 5 ran a similar sale. I read a couple of reports that claimed that the TG 10 ll 2 had some reliability problems. That said, a friend of mine has had one for about 4 years with no problems. He's got it spooled with 80# spectra and has had no problems with big fish it on his East Cape trips.

Just like anything made by man you will find somethings will not last as well as others. I would say 99% of these reels are constructed well and if taken care of will also take care of you. I have heard rare stories of reels not lasting in big situations, but again they are rare stories.

Parts, gears or drag washers breaking...a lot of times it involves the anti-reverse mechanism failing under pressure - the reel either free-spools uncontrollably, locks up or flies into reverse with the handle spinning. None are good with a big fish on.
I've got 3 Okuma Epixor spinning reels and 4 Okuma C3 rods and love them. I broke one of the rods and Okuma customer service was great. I received a hassle-free warranty replacement in a little over a week. My guess is that if you have any kaboom problems with the TG, Okuma will make it right. .

Looks like you got a deal! My uncle swears by his Okuma Titus's for trolling in the Gulf. They use them for everything from Amberjack to Wahoo. They are pretty hard on their gear, and have only had to send their reels back to Okuma once for routine maintenance.
