Memorial Day Yellowtail
be headed back to the beach around 3 pm but as the wind died off, I saw big bird piles a mile+ further out toward the canyon. Found acres of mackerel, diving pelicans, and terns picking at sardines out there. Got a handful of rockfish earlier in the day, and released a number of barracuda on the iron/jigstick. Fun day - glad I went out despite the less than stellar recent reports. Area: 4 miles WSW of the LJ Shores launch, about 3 miles from my WindanSea launch. |

Thanks for sharing, Larry. Congrats on a nice Yellowtail. Last Wednesday and Yesterday were nice days on the water after all this lock down, even not getting trophy fish doesn't seem that important at the moment. Making bait has become easier and there is more fish action then just a couple weeks ago. Seen some good marks and got a hit, that killed my greenback but didn't swallow the bait to give the hook a chance. It is sooooooo... nice to see things at LJ starting to look more like normal. A lot of boats and Kayaks out there but the fishing seems to be mostly rock fish. I'm one to look for the larger fish that can give you a work out that will make your arm feel like noodles after the fight. I don't always harvest them and release most to grow bigger. I always think that landing a nice Yellowtail, WSB or large Hali, only add the cream on top of a beautiful day in one of the most beautiful places anywhere. Was at least close and talking to a visitor from the LA area at LJ for his first time when he landed a approx. 30lb Hali his first legal Hali.

Yes, I'm still fishing guys, but sorry I do not post a whole lot.
Nice! was that a heavy or light jig? Surface iron Tady 45 in Mint color. So you launch outta windansea instead of the shores? Yes, I live at WindanSea so no need for a car. Wheel my kayak to the beach from my garage, and have been launching off the sand here for 18 years. Surf is huge here this weekend though, so I'm surfing instead ... Some killer shots. Hey Oolie, thanks yea I film everything on my GoPro and can take shots from the video (2.5K@60fps) I don't post a lot of pictures or videos online over the last few years though, editing takes time and I'm busy with full time job and family. Some shots here though: https://larryl.com/photos |
