The Prospect Report 5/14 L J Lays Down
After another week of wind and choppy seas the surf is smaller today than the 4'-6' that Wetsand was forecasting for La Jolla. The wind chop that has been visible each morning this week is gone. A bright orange yak looked to make the happy paddle in at 8:30 this morning. No visual confirmation of a fish just a distant observation.
Red tide is still hanging in the kelp on the inside but the outside looks clear from my Prospect perch. I was slapped around by some 6-8' sets at Boomer yesterday afternoon but the swell seemed to subside around 4pm and I decided I would bring my boat to work today. I am glad I did and things looks good for an afternoon run today. Tight Lines Kurtfish |

Launched yesterday at 2 pm and landed at 10 with a good buddy. Wind and chop were non issues as were the waves on the way in (not so much on the way out). Tide was super high and made for a fun landing.
Current was ripping late into the evening and kelp was well pushed down making it hard to find tie off spots. The few spots with kelp had dive boats on them; and with the kelp down seals quickly figured out where to get dinner. Red tide mason dixon line was just passed the condo for those who care. Clear 64 degree water beyond that. Fished 160' spent time chasing around birds to no avail. The action looked to be waay outside with birds working and boats "running and gunning". Couldnt/didnt want to muster that far, If only I had the eVolve drive in the hobie.... Red tied provided an awesome show on the way in with glowing fish darting like bottle rockets and peddle and paddle hot blue streaks most of the way in. The seal that followed us looked amazing as streaks of 6' long glowing blue hovered just below the yaks, Id have rather seen a 5' long wsb glowing underneath though.... Best |

Update
Mo J, I apprecaite your reply as current info has been limited and conditions have looked challenging. I chased those bird schools in my Whaler last Sat with all the BD Boys off LJ. It was a zoo and we only saw fish under two spots but could not get them to go. We eneded up tying the Whaler into the kelp adn fish Macs to no avail. My son was tried and reday to fall asleep so I called it a day as the sunset. Barefoot Bar for dinner with the WSB and Yellows swimming around the pond. Good visuals but food just okay.
Thank you, Kurtfish |
