Does anyone know if the frequencies used on VHF radios are the same in Mex as in the US?

Thanks. I guess to clarify, if I buy a radio, will I be able to communicate with other
boats in the area? Or do they use a different frequency band?

I'm thinking of safety issues and communicating with people in the area, not with people
I know will be on those channels. Does that make sense?
