First post first report. Rincon black friday
Now the report. I've been sticking to the harbors since getting my kayak, but today I decided to try a surf launch. I decided on Rincon island. My surf launch was drama free. Trolled for bait on my way to the island and caught a few macs and a jack smelt. Tried throwing big hammers around the island for about an hour with no luck. Wind was up so I tried my luck drifting. Caught this guy on my third or fourth drift. Couldn't find anymore takers after that. Oh well, at least it was a beautiful evening to be out. Saw my first dolphins from the yak today my landing didnt go as smooth as my launch. I rolled in the surf. I had everything lashed down though, so lost nothing but a little pride. |

Congratulations on getting your feet (and whole body) wet with the open ocean launch. Good choice, everyone should start with bay fishing before hitting the surf. The roll in the surf is common for all beginners when landing which is way, way more difficult than launching in the surf. Sounds like you did well, keep it up. Nice sunset photo.

Welcome to the website! Nice bass! Rincon Island can also be a good spot for springtime barracuda.

Thats about 15 mins from my house. I have had 25+ days or so out there. Thats a great place to cut your teeth on techniques, set ups, everything...What you have is about a 9 on a 1-10 for that place. Very very heavy pressure. But always bitters...small 90% of the time. About one in three trips you can keep something. Too bad its not a stop on the pelagic runs. Well done.
