Newport tomorrow (8-5-13)

I know it's late notice, but I plan on fishing Newport tomorrow morning if anyone wants to join me. Planing to be at the USCG parking lot at 5:30.

I usually fish the shoal off the USCG beach first. Depending on the bite there at some point I'll move across to the docks on the opposite side after that area. I'll be in a beige Native Manta Ray.

On the water around 630. Didn't see any other kayak fisherman until some came out on the kelp may an hour or so later.

Don't really feel like starting a new thread so.....Picked up squirts from the barge and couldn't get a bite from the kelp. Thought that maybe they were tuned in on fin bait and maybe I could get a leapard shark to play. Decided to try for rockfish around 11 and limited out on them around 3pm. Sent 3-4 small ones back down using and improvised rig which consisted of a sinker and a snap swivel and had to wrestle with getting my leader tangled on my front handle. Sorry no pics, was trying to get out of the water as fast as possible as to not be stuck in rush hour.
