I have caught a few fish this year so far but that's 90% from just blundering around and being in the right place at the right time by accident. I just watch the meter and drop on anything that looks good, even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes. I was just planning to follow you guys around and try and learn something It would of been good to see some of the guys like PAl, Josh, Zenspearo, and Iceman, and having a good lunch. Once again thanks to all the guys that are actively working to keep La Jolla and our other key spots open. I know the hell (and boredom) you guys go through, it's a thankless task but I'm for one am certainly thankful for your efforts on this. I may try to get down there during the week since I can't fish this weekend, then again I really want to finish my new Aluminum Kayak I'm building before the Offshore season heats up. Speaking of... back to work!!! Good luck to all. Sure wish I could get down there to fish with you. Jim Last edited by Fiskadoro; 06-22-2009 at 04:03 PM. |

Sorry I can't make it bro. I'm in the Bloodydecks tournament that day. I hope you get a good YT. Your chances of getting one are probably going to be much better since I won't be fsihng with you. |

I just found out about this from Jason over at the Lj surf sessions shop. I am in for sure. I am normally a south ender as I launch from Law St.(my front yard). I'll be the guy with the ghetto rigged kayak.

Pal, I am signed up for the big fish division on Sat. However, I would gladly give another $30.00 to be able to enter the bass division as well-- just as a way of increasing the donations you receive.

This will be the first tournament I've entered, so could you please lay out exactly what MBF format rule mean. My understanding is that only artificials can be used, but Gulp, UniButter and the like are ok. I get to weigh in 1 bass (alive) and then release it. Is there anything else I need to know? I intend on fishing artificials only in the kelp, but it just doesn't seem right to launch a La Jolla without a sabiki. As long as I don't fish a mack for bass I'm ok right? If not please let me know.

Gonna make it for the launch and drop off some prizes but don't think I can make the tournament. My son has a waterpolo tournament in Capistrano and my daughter has one in San Clemente which means wifey and I have to split up to cover them. If I can get grandpa to cover one of them I will be there of the day.
Good luck everyone.

Thanks - It would really suck to not have the gear to chase yellows if they do go off, and if I can snag a few smelt in the kelp with the sabiki it would be nice to be able to try and pick up a halibut for dinner. Thanks for all the work setting up this event - it's going to be a blast.

Registrations are pouring in! Well done, thank-you for your commitment to our irreplacible kayak fisheries such as La Jolla.
Here's the current list. If you have an "@" sign by your name, I've received your check.

2 days and counting! Pre-registration ends today. Sign up here by Thurs evening http://www.diamond-safety.com/signup-form.htm or just show up on Saturday. Either way, if you haven't already mailed a check, please bring your $30 entry to sign-in at OE Express on Avenida la Playa between 4 and 6:30 am. It's just steps from the launch.
If your name (alphabetized by first name) has an "@" sign by it, I've received your check so you can bypass sign-in. No beach launching until 5 am! Look else on this board later today for important event details.

Registration is closed! Walk-ups are still welcome. Here's the final tally. If you've sent a check but don't see an "@" sign by your name, please PM.
Also, the weigh boat can be reached by cell phone at: 619-602-7211. While you're out there, please do your part to clean up the coast. Trash can be dropped off with the weigh boat or brought to the awards ceremony at Standley Park. The person who collects the most garbage will receive a special prize pack (it'll be a bit subjective). Let's leave the area cleaner than we found it. Good luck to everyone, and we'll see you tomorrow!

just a warning, there is a bit of swell in the water as of late today, so be sure to tie down all your gear for entry and re-entry. The waves are out of the S,S/W so they shouldn't make too much of an impact in the launch/landing zone, but better safe than sorry
Cant wait to fish for a good cause! Mike |
