ummmm....not close enough I guess.....although its always easy to spot some of the guys that DO live close to the launch....you know the guys always lurk'in around the launch, shak'in u down for info, try'in to look in your hatches and truck....full of useless info from last time they went fishing.

Just another reason to practice C&R !!!!

lacofdfireman,
As for camping, as mentioned before campland is pretty close to LJ and is a cool place to stay. If you have something fairly small (trailer or van) the parking lot is open from 3 or 4am to 10pm and has trailer/RV spots if you get there early..... fish, eat sleep, and then drive home before 10pm....or just go park your rig on one of the streets, as long as your not being super loud/obvious you won't have a problem. Just make sure your gear is locked up good.

Good luck!!

I'm roughly 1 hour from what seems like everything (Newport Beach, Dana Point, La Jolla, Oceanside & Huntington Harbor). I'm around 2.5-3 hours to the Colorado river, but only minutes from Lake Elsinore, Lake Skinner, Lake Perris & Diamond Valley Reservoir (can't take the yak out there). Would love to fish Lake Mathews (MWD lake not open to the public) as I drive by it every work day just wishing to hookup on one of those beast bass living in there.

30 years ago I lived off La Sierra and fished Mathews a half a dozen times before getting caught by the man. They kept my gear and fish and wrote me a ticket for around $125.00. I think it is a federal reserve now and the ticket would be huge..

I caught a bass every cast and they were biggin's. There is a group of people that fish it at night still ( I am not one of them). http://www.pbase.com/mac1776/lake_matthews

I would love just to fish - but my work is just going nuts and I don't see it slowing down any time soon ( I am one of the fortunate ones). I keep saying I am going to spend the day with "The Darkhorse" - but that was a year ago and I hate making promises I can't keep. Hopefully there will be smoke on the water soon

30+ min to Marina Del Rey, which I have only been to once.
40 to Cabrillo
1 hr to Dana Pt.
1 3/4 hr to La Jolla
( all times at o'dark 30 with no traffic and damn the speed limit)

A few friends of mine camped at Campland on the Bay for the Moyer Tourney this year in tents and said it was convenient.

About 25 minutes to LJ, 16.6 miles according to google maps. Almost a straight shot going west.
But go every day? Not a chance. Once a week - that's pushing it - twice a month would be nice, once a month is more like it, if all goes well.
