Wow...
I am so glad my son and I had a chance to partake in this most unbiased process and got to truly see the inner workings of bureaucracy...
Incredible. To think after everyone's hard work we still are gonna end up getting a after all is said and done. Like Tyler said, Yay, we get to do it again in December....should we bus some kids in?

Guys, there's every chance they'll close this thing down today. That's if they don't deadlock 2-2.
They were ALWAYS going to forward all reasonable proposals. Thing is, the Commission has always rubber stamped the preferred alternative. The others are mostly there to fulfill red tape requirements for CA's environmental impact report laws, which require consideration of alternatives. So far this is just debate / discussion. There are no decisions yet, but they are making A and B alternatives for each geography. Stay tuned. |

Holy Mac:
(From Pau'ls blog) La Jolla is up. A is south La Jolla and Swamis, existing Scripps. B is the same plus an expanded Scripps and the frickin' pier and our bait Steven GreenInteresting that garth mentioned still allowing bait to be caught and kayak hook and line fishing north of the pier Paul LebowitzI'll get them to clarify |

Yep me too!
Update from Paul Paul Lebowitz South La Jolla is gone, gone, gone. Pt Loma is in the clear. I think we'll get stuck with an expanded Scripps MPA, pushed out as far as the point. It sounds as if we'll keep our bait and maybe even pelagics north of the pier. I'll try to find out in the next bit of downtime. |

Looks like they could give a #$% what we asked for yesterday. South LJ is the main focus of both sides in SD County.
A couple "positives"; Right before they went on break there was an argument made for pelagics allowed in water deeper than 50m in South LJ. I did not hear any complaints. Also, there is an attempt to make the South LJ SMR smaller since the Swami's SMCA meets the size and spacing guidlines, even heard one of the guys on the BRTF speaking in favor of a smaller than 9 square mile SMR in LJ. Keep you fingers crossed

Hey Paul,
If you are monitoring, please correct the woman who claimed that kayaks can launch from the cove. No floating devices are allowed there. Other than Big Rock near Windansea there are no usable launches at the La Jolla rock beaches. Would closing South LJ mean that launches would be prohibited there? Dare we hope that we may come out of this with somewhere we can still fish in LJ? The fact that they are considering allowing the catching of bait at the pier is a hopeful sign. Keep your reports coming. Bob |
