When traveling overnight, I noticed the straps holding the kayak loosen with the humidity or dew. It does not apply to the racks themselves, but if you load the kayak the night before, always check the strap tightness in the morning.

For next time, also remember to check the strap tightness in the morning, they loosen with the night humidity/rain.

Hope you get it back! Josh gives me hell for over engineering my kayak fasteners but I use four motorcycle straps for redundancy. Not all of us live 2 miles form LJ, and 80MPH tends to cause unexpected problems.
