The MXJ is a narrow MXL. The bearing issues are that Avet has finally switched to a servicable bearing. Blue rubber plates are easy to remove repack and fish. Older metal and some blue or very hard to service. If you can take a sharp point and easily flip up the rubber plate, it's new. If the plate is metal or the blue plate has a metal plate undere it - they are old. They are $5 a piece. |

OK, I'm a little slow, but now I got it.
I have a mixture of both bearings as I have replaced them from time to time to keep them running like new. The outer bearings seem more prone to corrosion than any of the others. I did not realize that I could just repack some of the bearings myself, hmmm.... on the other hand $5 a bearing isn't so bad, because once the rust starts I will replace them anyway. I still have to say that I like my Avets, well made, reliable, easy to service (15 minute rebuilds), and great customer service at a great price! |

Bloodydecks, Alantani, "bearings, bearings, bearings"
I use carb cleaner to clen the bearing. Then corrsion x to coat. then pack then with the blue corrosion grease from west marine. I don't use a lot of grease on the gears and only coat the inner annodized parts with a light coating. I use a small paint brush. I'm going to look at magging my reels. I can't catch shit, so I may as well fuck with the tackle. |
