Dear Friends & Neighbors, This is going to be an active time for parking issues over the next few weeks! There are several important parking-related events on the calendar and we have some important information to update you on. New Website: We are in the midst of getting organized as a community and have created a website that will have more information as it is available. This will serve as a clearing house for information on Parking issues. If you hear about something that you think we should know about, or are planning an activity that you would like to share, please email this address. Important groups and members: A short description of the groups & members are listed at the bottom of this email for those that may not be familiar with them. Upcoming dates- Wednesday, October 31- La Jolla Community Parking District Advisory Board (LJCPDAB) They are taking public comments at this meeting. If you are going to present something at the meeting, submit it in writing too! Time: 9am Location: Hotel Parisi- 1111 Prospect Thursday, November 1- La Jolla Community Planning Association (LJCPA) http://www.lajollacpa.org/ljcpa110107agenda.pdf (If you are a member of CPA- please come at 6pm to vote on the bylaws! A quorum is needed!) Time Certain: 7:30 pm Location: 615 Prospect. Friday, November 2- Public comment period closes. The LJCDPAB will use the time between this date & November 14th to make adjustments to the Pilot Plan based on community input. What the working arrangement for this is and who will do the work have not been announced. The designated address for comments is: parking@lajollabythesea.com Friday, November 2- Free La Jolla Party This is an organizing meeting for those opposed to Paid on-street parking. Parking is on the agenda for this meeting. See the events calendar at www.birdrock.org Time: 6:30pm Location: Bird Rock Elementary School Auditorium- 5371 La Jolla Hermosa Wednesday, November 14- La Jolla Parking Advisory Board meeting They will be voting on the Pilot Parking Plan at this meeting. This is the meeting that counts. They are the group that has the official status to make a recommendation to City Council to get the program implemented. In terms of public review- they may be presenting a new version of the Pilot Plan at this meeting. At least this is what would be expected, if there was incorporation of public comments! As of today, there is no schedule for having this new pilot plan reviewed publicly, by either individuals or community groups. The La Jolla Parking Advisory Board will ask Scott Peters for the item to be placed on the docket at City Council. Date to be announced. Please participate as much as you can! Initially the group was appointed by Councilman Scott Peters. One of the issues that is yet to be resolved, is that there has been a longstanding desire by the community, for the members of this board to disclose business/financial activity that pertains to parking issues and decisions made by this board. Parking Board Members- 1. Peter Wagener- Chair of the Parking Board, VP PLJ*, owner of Hotel Parisi (where the meetings are held.) PLJ* appointee. 2. Martin Mosier- Vice Chair of the Parking Board. Village business name unknown. PLJ* appointee. Is on the City of San Diego Parking Advisory Board, which is a Mayoral appointment, confirmed by City Council. He represents District 1 on that Board. 3. Reza Ghasemi- Sec. PLJ*. Owns La Jolla Rugs. PLJ* appointee. 4. Paul Metcalf- Bird Rock Community Council appointee. 5. Marty McGee- La Jolla Community Planning Association appointee. 6. Ken King- La Jolla Shores Association appointee. 7. Ray Weiss- La Jolla Town Council appointee 8. Mark Evans- at large resident- appointed by Scott Peters & re-elected by the Parking Board in May 2007. He is the author of the Parking plans with input from Martin Mosier. 9. Michael Harth- at large business representative- appointed by Scott Peters & re-elected by the Parking Board May 2007. He is the operator of Sunset Parking. He resigned at the September meeting. His seat is currently vacant. Alternates: Darcy Ashley: La Jolla Community Planning Association Tom Brady: La Jolla Town Council Jim Heaton: La Jolla Shores Association Patrick Ryan: Bird Rock Community Council *Promote La Jolla. PLJ had a meeting for its membership to discuss parking issues (the Pilot Plan is located primarily in the business district that PLJ represents) on October 24th that was canceled due to the fires. To my knowledge, it has not been rescheduled. Additionally, there is a PLJ regular meeting scheduled for November 14th at 3pm at La Valencia. Please check their website for further information about PLJ meetings.) Further information on Community Groups: Bird Rock Community Council- A volunteer community organization located in Bird Rock. President: Chuck Patton. www.birdrock.org La Jolla Community Planning Association- the City designated Planning group in La Jolla for Land Use issues. All members are volunteers. President: Tim Golba. www.lajollacpa.org La Jolla Shores Association- A volunteer community organization located in La Jolla Shores. President: Sherri Lightner. www.lajollaguide.com/ljsa La Jolla Town Council- A volunteer community organization for all of La Jolla. The organization is over 50 years old. President: Anne Cleveland. www.lajollatowncouncil.com Promote La Jolla- The organization that has the city contracts to administer both the Parking District and the Business Improvement District (BID.) For the BID, La Jolla Village Businesses pay a fee on their business licenses each year to fund the BID. Promote La Jolla has an Executive Director, which is a paid position. The Board members are volunteers. It is 20 years old this year.
