Fishfinder will not "shoot" through hull
Got a little problem maybe you guys can shed a little light on. I have a Perception Caster 12.5 and a Humminbird Piranhamax 190c FF. I mounted the transducer inside the hull laying flat on the bottom of the kayak....didn't glue it down yet as this was a test run......FF displayed 0 depth and no picture on the screen the entire time.....took the tranducer out and dangled over the side and it works perfectly..... any ideas? thanks in advance for the help |

[QUOTE=

The heat loss through the polyethylene hull is why it works. The PVC and cap just keep the water in place. We have compared it to a in the water mount and it read the same.

wet mount
http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/s...?t=6394&page=5
take a look at this link. this is what i did for my wet mount. i used a container that i had bought lunch meat in from target and just cut out the bottom. this has worked great for me. it holds the water tight with the lid and also the temp reading has been fairly accurate. make sure to use a piece of foam to keep the transponder in place in the container. if you don't the transponder moves around and the reading will be off. i made this mistake so learn from me. |

No issues whatsoever. The 5200 cured/dried to be semi-flexible, like caulk. I would absolutely do it again, unless the kayak already had accomodations for the ducer being in the water, like the Tridents. The sonar unit I have has everything I need. If I'm going to drop the $ on a hi-end sonar then I'll probably be updating the ride as well. |

I was having the same problem when I had mine mounted with 5200...so I ripped it out and re-bedded it with marine goop, problem solved.
