Hi Jim,

Is there any spot that is noteworthy or neat to see to stop and picnic on the way up, will have wife, and 6 & 8 yr old kids in tow. Perhaps, a couple hours outside of June Lake.

Thanks,

Chris

I like to stop in Bishop and fuel-up at the Indian Casino (usually a good "cash" gas price) and then get a sandwich at Meadow Farms smoked meats...and while I'm there, I get some double mahogany smoked bacon to wrap my trout in and some spicy smoked Louisiana sausage for the crawdad boil. Then I drive up to the lookout on Sherwin Summit and look back at Long Valley and enjoy my sandwich.

If you are into geology, Fossil Falls is pretty interesting. May not keep the attention of youngsters though. Also, I don't know if Manzanar is open or not

The Mt Whitney hatchery is a beautiful place in Independence off the 395

I haven't been there for about 7 years but they have a nice pond full of brood stock that you can feed. (Bring quarters for the pellet machines)
I don't think the hatchery itself is operational anymore but it's a nice scenic area to stop and enjoy the beauty.
