Malibu 1/24

Rolled up to the launch at 6 am with EASTLosYaker. Was on the water by about 6:30. Very easy shore launch.

Conditions were fairly calm, but a bit rocky from the short swell period.

Made bait, very easily within the first hour, and worked 150ft, then 90 ft then 60 ft and finally 50ft in the kelp.

hook up my 2nd to last bait spanish on and drop it by the kelp get it down about 15 feet and stop to fiddle with my reel. Look over at the bait as it gets very skiddish. I see what looked to be calico with a bigger shadow underneath it and the bait dissapeared under my kayak and ! The fish took line and even tilted my kayak slightly. Fought for about 30 seconds but I tried to stop it early, so that it would wrap me up in the kelp and SNAP!

Mystery fish snapped 30 lb flouro at the dropper loop knot. I would guess that it was either the biggest calico i've ever hooked, or a black seabass. Took line running 40 lb mono with a 30 lb flouro leader.

Fishing was tough all day, no bite ever developed.

Other than that still managed 2 barely legal sandbass (released) on some swimbaits and nightmares from a another mystery fish.

Might have to drag my newly rigged trident up there for a spin.

Didn't fight like one in my opinion.

I know we have caught and released a few 60 lb black seabass in the area I fished. So if I had to gues, that was probably what I hooked.
