Nephew's first YT, THX OEX and Kevin

First time in a kayak, first Yellowtail bruiser!!

We set out today prepping the kayak for the first trip this year in La Jolla.
TO OEX for 4 new handles, 20 feet of shock cord, watertight rod holders, etc... Thanks for the help Grant.

OTW, I saw Kevin coming in and he hooked me up with a dozen greenies. We trolled from the buoy line out and then fed the dogs for a while.

At sunset (an hour OTW) Mike hooked up!!! He is on and taking instruction, cutting kelp and reeling constantly. He was treated to a LA Jolla sleigh ride.
This fish was a solid 25 lbs. My nephew is like 6'6" for size reference.

Sunset

Nice sunset YT and kudos to Kevin for handing off the greenbacks.

I suppose he will be addicted to kayak-fishing now.

Now that's a memory that will be hard to top. First kayak fishing trip to LJ and landing a 25lb yellow, wow. The only thing better will be eating the trophy. Congrats!
