Redondo Beach 07/27/14

Finally got to Redondo Beach at 6:30AM and got on the water by 7AM. I got to say this beat Newport kid beach launch. Just roll the kayak down the dock, gear up and push the kayak off the dock. It’s a first time launching at this spot. Peddle out to the fishing area, at ~50ft deep 70Degrees water. Bait was easily made and the area is nice a flat, looks like a good area for halibut. Drop the rig with a greenback and troll around but no takers. Caught my fair catch of sand dabs to make up for the off cut squid. Nothing to really brag about but the condition was great, glassy water, good breeze until 1:30PM rolls around. My buddy had 3 good bites, but nothing stick. That’s when the wind picked up and thunder started roaring, rain started pouring and so I started to peddle quickly back to the launch dock. Then 30 min later, the skies open again and I thought dam, could’ve had some more time trying for a flatty, but me and my buddy called it quit for the day.

You were better off going for the dock with the lightening strikes going off.

Thanks for the report. It poured on me at Newport on Sunday too.

In the morning it was flat and calm water with less than 3mph winds. It’s a shorter paddle to get out of the harbor than Dana Point and Newport for that I can say. Wednesday conditions looks pretty good also, good luck and hope you pull up a pig out there.
