Any nice looking hardwood works. Unscrew the old ones and use as a pattern, cut, sand, coat with some marine grade varnish. Let dry a few days then attatch to boat. I used 3/4 inch stock planed down a little fit heigth of boat, being a little proud is good.

Has anybody actually have one break? I never heard of one. They flex a little but that's about it...

If your a diy'er try ridout plastics off Ruffin rd. they have high quality plastics you can make your own custom boards.
I use to pick up plastic from there scrap bin to make gun holsters.

No problems with the plastic ones, just got board one day.
Just like Mako said used the old as a template. Had to get longer screws too. Walnut. |

Putting the wood to them…
I’ve made a few dozen for all my PA’s over the years & for a few buddies.
I have played around with a few different designs, had them flush mounted & capped. I personally prefer it capped for several reasons for my layout & dispatching.. Use stainless hardware of course & if you are using Hobies lowrance cable grommets, you can also use those pad eyes ect to hold the ducer' cable in place underneath the boards for a cleaner layout. The only thing I haven’t done yet that I'd like to is maybe an abalone inlay.. This is some top grade selects.. Extra knotty, exotic Douglas Fir that was harvested in a remote region of Home Depot for $2.53. PA 12 PA 14 / Bench PA 12 / Vantage 3-4 finish coats of something like this will do the trick. brush or rattle can application.. Has anyone put wood rails on a revo or outback? I've seen them done on an Ocean Kayak or Tarpon I believe and they looked really good. Also made for a sturdy surface to mount anything.
