HOWDY from Texas (rod question?)

This seems like a great site!!!

I am coming to visit a friend of mine from LV and we are meeting in San Diego late April.

I love fishing from my Cobra FnD here in the Texas Gulf and we are gonna fish a few days at LJ and I was hoping yall could steer me in the right direction and maybe a few of you could join us for a morning.

I am flying up and have a few rod choices, can yall tell me what would be my best option?

1. Penn 345gti spooled with 65lb powerpro(~500yd) and 40lb mono topshot(~250yd)

2. Penn 3\0 senator spooled 30# mon

3. 6000seris spinning reel with 20lb

Also have bait\trout rod(12lb mono) and a 9\0 Senator spooled with 100lb pp(600yards) and 80lb mono topshot(200yd), I figured the 9\0 as over kill

I hope to target Yt and maybe catch Butts and to brag back home that I got a thresher would be AWESOME.

What are yalls recomendations with my rod selection? Keep in mind I am flying and space is a concern.

Thanks for you help and hope to meet a few of you out there!

What you have listed is fine, but I'd change out to floro leaders (my personal choice). A bait tank or bait tube would be a good idea, and I'd add a jig stick. All my jig sticks are one piece, but I'm intending on getting a couple of 2 piece jig sticks for stowing and travel.

Best of luck.

Good call on the Jigging Rod!

I always fish Flourocarbon here also but normallyjust tie on length needed for a leader on what ever I am rigging for. (will that work here?)

Thanks for the replys

I have never been to Cali before and I am very excited about the visit!
