I used to fish SD Bay at night with some frequency. Mostly in the summer and fall when it wasn't too cold. It is nice to be on the bay when it is totally, or almost, empty and calm. About any thing you can catch in the day bites at night too. A kayak is concidered a "vessel under oar" and requires one white light visable from 360 degrees. Mike

Bass fishing is good at night. I find dark plastics work best.

I heard cbass like to eat in the dark.....night fishing is one of my favorite things to do!!
Seriously if you have a light, fishfinder, GPS and are comfortable out there give it a shot. I fished LJ until about 8pm last night...lotsa action but not the right kind. Landing in the surf is the skechiest part because you cant really see the waves until they break...its even harder with a 50lb fish!!!

OEX has been having Bay Bass tournaments once a month at night since moving to the new Mission Bay Location.

watch for the date to be announced, they are fun, small, MBF style events.

What lights do You guys use for running at night? Head lamp and a hard mount light, like Scotty makes? Will the suction light work that You can put on the deck for temporary use? What do You use when You launch from La jolla in the early morning?

Thank You for Your help.

Here is a good article for ya....

I don't do much night fishing but headlamp is a given. Most guys I see at the launch in the early morning hours at LJ are going out with just the head lamp in anticipation of the sunrise shortly thereafter.

night fishing the bay is always a good time whether it be from a yak or the shore. my girl loves it in the bay especially when the sea world fire works start, who thought fishing could also be a romantic date.
