hey...im a kinda new to this... i just wondering where is the kelp line and how far do you go out until you reach the kelp line. i always hear about catchin alot of fishes there but not really sure what it is.

Congrats on the big Bonita. Sounds like enough to fill several bait cages.
Take a look at Google Earth/ Maps. This will give you the best idea of where the kelp starts.

If you live in San Diego, drive down to La Jolla cove, or anywhere along the coastline road in La Jolla, and you can see the kelp from the shore. Not from the launch, you need to be a bit south of that, above the water, to see it well.
That will answer your questions. Those big Bonito's fight like crazy. Pretty tasty too. They can be really fun to catch on a lighter rod. And like the man said, they fill a couple of bait cages nicely. Willy |
