EL JAY, 12/28/05
1.5 ft waves, water 58, water vis. 10-15 ft., annoying NW wind. It was foggy on the 805 and 52, but not at the launch. We didn't bother making bait, just yo-yoed and tossed irons. Fished the spot, and then out to the canyon edge where the birds were working. Lot's of birds feeding on bait... Off of the water @ 0930. Picked up this guy, on the yo... (released) A picture of the launch, when we landed... If anyone was wondering. |

Hey Dennis, I only brought in one gut hooked calico for 6 hours fishing. I went straight out to the spot and put some 99 Ranch Market squid on a bottom rig and also on a Salas Jr. Caught a few mackerel and chased the birds around for a while. At 8:30am I paddled up to Blacks and worked the canyon edges for halibut. Also metered lots of fish around the near shore edge of the canyon but couldn't get any of them to bite. Finally pulled up a calico bass that was gut hooked so I brought it home rather than release it, already had it for lunch. I'll probably try again tomorrow if the weather is good but can't stay out as long. Hope someone gets a bite going to help my motivation. Dave

I know... What's up with that? But, at least I'm catching bass that are legal. Instead of the BSB's... haha!
I figured you were going to hook out when you called at 1am  . I woke up at 4am to the beeping of the answering machine. Oh, I also had some knucklehead bust my driver side mirror... |

I did a quick tour of one of the lagoons I've been eyeing near my office. Caught some small spotties and sand bass - ran into Ryan who was also out on his first visit to the spot. Avery and his friend joined us later sans fishing gear.
On one of my drifts my rod went bendo. I knew it wasn't the bottom as I slowly made progress with something very big on the end. It was flat and heavy and came up like ... a pair of pants. The pristine lagoon wasn't so nice after all. At low tide there were all these sponges (I think) spitting water out of their holes. That was kind of cool. Well, another place I'd never been to is marked off the list. Arne |
