Lobster Hoop Net Bait

Hey Everybody-
This will be my first lobster season dropping hoop nets. Does anyone have any recomendations as far as bait to use. I have heard to use cut mackrel or salmon heads. Also a heads up, I had to go to two locations for my lobster report card.
Thanks All....

For bait use any thing oily if you can. Salmon heads, Bonita, Macs, Dins, skip jack, punch holes in the top of cat food and put it in the bait pouch too. Fresh bait works best. If you use bait cages stuff them full so the bait is sticking out of the cage on all sides.

I will take a bait cage and fill it full and freeze it in a one gallon zip lock, it is ready to use, zip tie it to the hoop catch my bugs, then cram more fresh bait in the cage on top of the old and refreeze it in the zip lock bag. Bait is ready for next trip.

Take it easy!

Remember they're cockroaches, eating whatever detritus they find.
Leftover chicken would work too.

I have done super stupid good using left over KFC along with cat food in my cages. Deep fried works. Really

I have tried lots of different stuff for bait...
can't go wrong with mackerel, bonita or sand bass.
Tuna, salmon & other scraps can work good too. Just fill your cages full!

I think being at the right place at the right time is more important than bait!

Ditto x10. Bait cages crammed totally full always seem to work a lot better than partially filled cages!
