Late Report for Cabrillo 6/28/08

Got on the water by 7 am and paddled out to perfectly calm conditions. Water was like glass. Got hooked up by Anthony at the bait station again. Said they were catching Halibuts everywhere around the Harbor. Could feel the wind around 9am so better get the lead out. Drifted along the wall and started getting bites but no hookups. Caught the first one around 10am on a bottom rig with a sardine. Used a trap setup but it was hooked on the front circle hook. 2nd one came around 10:30 on a similar setup. 3rd one was way too small to even merit a picture. Started paddling in around 11:30 to white caps. By the time I got to the no wake zone, it was a friggin washing machine. Took me about an hour to get in. Much better than last time when it took me 2 hrs.

Saw a bunch of people in the parking lot and talked to Bellcon breaking down. DFG was out there taking a survey and measuring the fishys.

Question Flatties...

Where about's are you hooking these flatties?
Was out recently, dragging bait along the inside of the break water near the lighthouse...

First halibuts from cabrillo was in the area in front of the kids camp, inside the no wake zone. I've also gotten a bunch along the breakwall, pretty wide zone along the breakwall too. Sometimes tight, sometimes a bit away from the wall.
