Solo Skiff Halibut 25lb - Ocean Beach 3.22.2020
Sunday the 23rd I went rock fishing out front of Mission Bay. I was using a my Shimano Tranx 300 on a Phoenix M1 inshore rod and dropping a 130 gram glow in the dark squid flat fall with a whole frozen dead squid on one hook and a whole frozen dead shrimp on the other hook. I was fished the bottom for a couple of hours and landed a huge Calico and a variety of rockfish then I felt some heavier hits and bam a nice 25lb halibut took it. I floated her up and she sat upright for a while messing with me before I finally nailed a clean belly gaff shot just long enough to clip it off on the game clip. 38" long and 25 pounds, my personal best Halibut. And the most special part about it is I cold see my house in Ocean Beach in the background. Here is the you tube video: https://youtu.be/PfFqPJ97jO8 |

Thanks for sharing, Mikey. I saw the video earlier on your tube channel. Great catch and some great meals for the staying at home duration.

PM me sir
Mikey,
I will be getting a solo skiff a soon as RONA passes through, since OEX is closed. I would love to pick your brain on a few things if dont mind. There is actually a few of us jumping ship and selling our Hobies for the Solo's, so we will have to bomb out one of these days. |

Nice Halibut! Congratulations! I would like to see you do a video on the Solo Skiff - pros, cons, and what has worked best for you.

Thank you
Thank you all for watching and the nice comments.
I was able to fish until 4/2/2020 then they shut all recreational fishing down and I haven’t been out since. Next up is Nor Cal for some Salmon! Nick, I sent you a PM. That is really cool that I motivated you to get a Solo Skiff. My love of mine is obviously showing. Thank you everyone. |
