San Diego Bay 6/22/19

Two fellow yak-ers and I launched at 6:45am out of shelter island and had a pretty successful day considering very few people I had talked to had any luck. Ended up snagging two 28" halibut and a 22" sandy...

Totals:
- Halibut: 6 (4 keepers, only actually kept 2 though)
- Spotties: 10 (all released obviously)
- Sandies: 4 (1 keeper)

The sandy makes the two halibut look barely legal but he ended up providing my friends and I with 12 street tacos to give you an idea of the size.

Hope all of you that fished the overnight tournament had some fun!

Also, I'll be changing my name soon as I realized there is a YakNewb on the forum.

Cheers!

What kind of rig did you use for the halibut and do you have any tips? I've tried trolling a few times now, but still no luck. Not even sure what I'm looking for on the fish finder other than a drop (30 to 60ft). Thanks!

That’s a good day there. The spotties were chewing plastic today also. Probably 40 spotties between me and a buddy.

I was using a hook up style bait. Fishing 20-30' as well. I don't find them as frequently in the 40'+ range but I know people do.
