Thanks for getting me all excited...
The MXJ is a great reel. I need another one. BTW: the upgraded bearings are very nice. $5 a piece. Blue rubber capped for easy maintenance. Maybe you can sell me yours and upgrade to the 2speed!!!! |

The Avet has a bait postion for slow trolling baits. I use a down rigger clip.
Line per crank? |

The Sx's ratios on the ones I own are, 5.0:1 and 5.3:1.
My MXL's are 6.3:1 and one that is 4.5:1. I like them all. The 4.5:1 can actually come in really handy (no pun intended). My clickers work just fine from big macs to small macs. If I need to, I can adjust the drag a touch and put it into the live bait position. Great reels for LaJolla! |

about gear ratios and line retrieved per crank...
the higher the gear ratio, the faster line is retrieved but... what about the diameter of the spool? larger diameters = faster retrieve?? I got a Calcutta 400 (5.0:1) and it only gets 24 inches/crank but the diameter is real small The Torium has a gear ratio at 6.2:1, which is not that much more than the Calcutta, but does have a large diamter and it retrieves at 46"/crank with the narrow and large diameter of the MXJ at 5.8:1, my guess is a retirieve near 40 or more but Avet's doesnt give those specs... |

I love mine! I've got a MXL 2sp, SX 2sp, and a MXJ that I bought online. I had a few problems with the MXJ at first so I took it to their shop in Chatsworth. Nice people asked me what was going on,said ok come back tomorrow. Picked it up the next day and they charged me 20 bucks I think and changed out the inners. Took it out the next day and guess what? it froze up on me!! Yelled all kinds of words!!!!! finished my day on the water and took it back by their shop on my way home. Calmly told them what had happened and spent the next 10 min be appologized to. Sorry, sorry please leave it with us and we'll ship it back out to you tomorrow, or you can pick it back up. Ok feeling better left and came back the next day, when I got there I was handed an almost brand new reel. They had someone new working the press the day before and when they put my reel back together something got nicked inside. The only part of my old reel I got back was the spool with all my line and my handle. No charge of corse and got to take a tour of their shop. Stand up company for sure..
So what i'm saying is NO you can't have mine either!!!!!!! Peace Out EFISH |

Why are you asking these questions? I'm looking to buy one, not sell one. I think line per crank is something a marketing agent decided to post because they had nothing left to talk about. So Ojos, do you have a MXJ to sell me or what? |

Here's the catch, Avets are not the type of reel you leave covered in salt water for two months without rinsing. They are annodizedd aluminum lever drags with 6 ball bearings. If you like to toss your shit into the back of the car for weeks at time without proper cleaing and drying. Get a graphie start drag for 1/2 the price as an Avet. Shimano and Diawa make great $100 reels. Otherwise feel free to PM about any Avet. BTW; the red tide affects that killed Ojos last year hasn't hurt the spring time stuff. get ready for September! |

I would just get the AVET, use a wet sponge to clean it. They have dry drags (unlike most others, shimano and daiwa) and they have 8 bearings.
p.s. their 2 speeds is very versatile. |

Correct 6 bearings for single speed MX & SX avets to date. I do not own any of the two speed models so I can't vouch for them.

Just got back from the guys at AVET (reel/rod seminar), they claim their reels have 8 bearings.
When I asked them "where?" They said that the handle has 2. I have never taken one apart yet, but I will on weds. |

OK I was thinking about that, The new rubber handles may have bearings. I own one , never tore it down. The new pdfs are going up soon according to Aleesa.

YEP!!! They have 2 bearings in the handle, they are sealed like the rest of the reel, not as smooth as some others but a reel (LOL) good idea for handle bearings.
