Silver Lake-June Lake Loop
I never left the campsite since I brought enough food for the entire trip. Only time I left was to the store across the street to replenish beer. I brought enough but I gave a few away Trolling only produced two fish total for the trip! Fishing with bait and micetails got me about 2 fish each day from the shore at my site. Nothing special but they were around 2lbs each. Released all and kept two for eating. Trolling and shore fishing was slow for me and almost everyone I talked to. But you cant beat the scenery! I brought along my mini teardrop camper for its first trip. I've been tenting all this time but the wind can get pretty brutal. It's small but it will do until I get a big rig one day. Also I figured out a way to throw my heavy kayak onto the roof....and I have a bad back. I still might sell the Pro Angler and get a Outback but I can't get myself to get rid of it. A few pics of the trip. Not many since it was just me. First stop to make sure everything was tight. My dog doesnt know how to sit in the passenger seat Arrived to a beautiful site by the water All set. Shade is a must One of the fish I kept My mini camper has running water so I got a fish cleaning table

Thanks for sharing Beto. It is always beautiful at Silver Lake. The wind though is killer at times. I love having breakfast or lunch at the Restaurant (great food) by the RV resort across the street. That is were I stay, so as to have all the hook ups for my trailer. It also keep the wife happier. Can't wait for next trip up there.

Thanks guys. It was a fun relaxing trip. Usually I drive around from lake to lake. This time my truck didnt move until I left.
I hope I can make it up there at least once a month now that I have a mini camper. Yes, I recommend the restaurant too. I've ordered breakfast and lunch and it has always been good. On summer days, the wait can be long. Cris, hes an aussie. He's the "mini" variety but on the bigger end of the weight for them at about 32lbs fully grown. Loves to go on the kayak.

Thanks for the post! That looks absolutely awesome and peaceful.
I'm going to Silver Lake on Labor Day for a couple of days and then heading to Tahoe for the rest of the week. Any advice on the bear box situation there? |

Ha I meant during the fishing season. But yeah now that I think of it, it sounds too hopeful. I'll be happy with 4 trips during the season.

Yea... looks great...
Wow...that snow covered Carson Park is beautiful as a background.
Thanks for the report Beto... There should be some good flow on Reverse Creek and Rush Creeks with all that water. What was the lake level like...? Did you drop any traps...? I can't wait till the 28th to check-in to that great little campground and put the yak in the water for my first of three two week trips this summer. Drop some crawdad traps and start slow trolling a Hookup Bait or a couple of mini 'smile blade' rigs I made this winter...oh yea...Heaven...! Breakfast at the Resort is the best in the loop...just get in there early and you can usually beat the crowd. That food truck behind the market in town has some great Poki...and there's always the Tiger Bar for a burger and beer break from camp food...LOL Freedom Fytah..."Any advice on the bear box situation there?" A large bear box is supplied at each campsite along with a fire pit and a large picnic table... Fish11..." It is always beautiful at Silver Lake. The wind though is killer at times." IMHO the beauty of the June Lake Loop is that you have so many options when the wind picks up at Silver...Little Gull lake is often protected and the part of Grant Lake at the inlet with Rush Creek can be good too. Both Rush and Reverse Creeks are pretty protected from the wind also...or you can hike up Fern Creek and C&R a few little Brookies...a trip to Mono Lake is always good too, especially if you've never visited this unreal moonscape shoreline...

Water level is getting high. The rocks by the outlet on Rush creek are already fully submerged. With all the snow runoff I can see it being a problem for shore sites in the next month or so. At the least there will be no shore left for shore fishermen by the campground. No traps this trip, forgot them I even brought my old aerator for the trip back. Wanted them as fresh as possible.

Thanks GTboosted and Saba Slayer!
Being unfamiliar with the campground, I questioned to myself if there was a bear box per site and if they were big enough to accommodate a decent sized cooler. Thank you! |

Hey GT I was the guy in the cement taco that stopped by your site for a bit. Fishing was slow for us too, only two browns for us on night crawlers. Nothing trolling. Caught a couple crawdads but not enough for a boil so threw em back.

man this looks like fun. Id love to get out and take one of the dogs with me. Any concerns with the dog chasing animals off or is the dog pretty well trained in off leash commands?
