The USCG beach is where I launch in Newport. Long slog through the sand, unless you can make the turn in the sidewalk by the bathroom. I can sometimes pull it off by myself with my Ride 135. A 12' or shorter kayak should be no problem. There is a launch on the peninsula that a lot of guys use. It has a short walk through the sand, but a drop off a wall of about 3'. Not sure what parking is like over there these days. It also has the benefit of being able to launch any time of day. The USCG parking lot doesn't open until 6am, and they will cite you if you're too early.
Good luck out there, hopefully you find 'em.

I recommend launching off the peninsula on G, H, I, or J Street.
There will be parking (even in summer), it is a very tiny wall to get your kayak over, and the drag through the sand is minimal. I much prefer it to the slog at the USCG. |
