43 Pound Halibut
The winning catch was 43 pounds (about 45") on February 28th. The second biggest was 23 pounds (about 37"), caught by the same guy about 20 min earlier. Congratulations to Mike Lagrisola for the nice fish, and for winning the $2950 jackpot! Here's the story about the winner from the Reader, with a few more details about rig used, etc.: https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/...ound-halibut/# Here's the previous Reader story about the ongoing Dolphin "tournament": https://www.sandiegoreader.com/event...ard-the-dolph/ (good idea for drumming up business during this time of year)

Dana Wharf is also running their Halibut Derby till the end of the month. The current leader there is at 36 pounds. It's definitely a good time of year for Halibut fishing.
