10/1 Dana point afternoon

Checked my batteries the night before and realized my sonar wasn't holding a charge... had to start late so I could pick up a new one.
Launched out of baby beach around 10:30am.

Those swells were about as rough as I think I'd want to get out in with a kayal.

Got up to the red bouy and worked around the lobster hoops....a lot of time just learning to read/tweak my sonar. Pulled up a handful of white fish and rockfish, all c&r.

The swells were small but yea they seemed short period making it feel a little choppy out there in the afternoon. I went south instead of where you went and found the bass biting, and wrestled with a big Leopard inside the harbor on my way in. At least you found out about your battery before you hit the water!

I think more than anything it was getting used to the boat traffic. I even had one boat wave at me to make sure I was aware of the yacht cruising by on my 6... Taught me to keep my head on a swivel for that extra wake.

Hardest thing yesterday was finding a spot and then staying on it.
Even with the trolling motor in this kayak, it was pretty tricky to stay on a good spot.

'grats on the leopard shark! I hear they're fun

Hoping to go back out soon and find some Sheepshead.
