I did with success but no longer recommend it. You don't want to contaminate your meat.
Instead freshwater rinse then towel dry. And if you want I recommend a light coat of cooking oil for storage. You'll still eventually acquire light surface rust. But with care you'll probably lose it overboard before the hook fails.
