Fishing macks deep

I'm not sure if its too early to start fishing macks for the yellows ( i missed out on the squid bite and it seems they're gone now) but for fishing them deep, how do you guys do it? Do you fish a drop shot or a C-rig? I was fishing a carolina rig before, and last time out i changed to a drop shot because i was trying to get some squid. Never got any squid so that rig never got used. I'm just curious if one way is better than the other. The fly-line is pretty stupid proof and i've actually hooked my only yellow that way but it was summer time. I figure its too early for the fly line but i really dont know. Just trying to check on the deep rigs.

TXyakker,

I believe most guys use a swivel with ~3 feet of leader and have a 2-4oz egg sinker above the swivel.

30-40# leader is sufficient, some use flourocarbon.

I carry spare leaders with swivel and hook tied on for quick re-rigging.

Fish the reel with free spool or light drag and clicker on...

I use sinker sliders with torpedo sinkers so I can change weights without retying. But egg sinkers are a little better near kelp or structure.
