Shopping for a Handheld VHF, any advise?
So what do you have, and what do you recommend? |

what not to buy
west marine brand water proof ones. bought it. got a letter 8 months later that it might not be exactly waterproof.
they offered me a waterproof bag for the old one at no costlol i said what would be the point. to their credit they traded me out no questions asked for a standard horizon submersible hx471s. i paid the difference. good cutomer service for me. not such a great product. dave

I did notice that the "West Marine Brand" stated a different waterproof standard (jis-7 and jis-8), as opposed to the IPX-7 standard, and were not floaters.
I got it narrowed down to the Icom M34, or Standard Horizon HX750S. Both of these float. |

Yup, thats what I bought this afternoon the Icom M-34.
They have a $10 rebate on the radio going on now, and the nice lady gave me 10% off as well. It comes wit a 3 year warranty and I added 2 more for cheap money. |
