Channel Islands Harbor launching
I read on the channel island website that kiddie beach doesn't allow launching of water craft. The last time I was in the area there wasn't any sand at hobie beach. Thanks in advance. |

How bad is it at Hobie beach? Sounds like if the sand is gone there it will also be gone is most of the surrounding area.

I launched a float tube in CI harbor ONCE about 5 years ago. No problem there. There's a sand bar ramp just a few yards above kiddie beach just cart your kayak up there.

No clue. I just know that I need to make another trip up to CI harbor one of these days. Gotta find some rockfish holes up there!

Put kayak into water and then play it by ear. Too much wind that early I will stay in the Mandalay Bay area. If no wind then head out to break wall for as long as I can. Or just fish along the jetties and docks. More the welcome come along. |

They are more of a "deep" water fish. There is a canyon just outside the harbor.

Yup, graphs are helpful. Specially since it is a lot more work to move across water than a boat. You might be wanting to target a certain depth and a graph lets you plan for it in advance. I like this link
http://www.charts.noaa.gov/Interacti...c.shtml?rnc=50 I check it out when I want to explore a new area. You can zoom in to an area and get a pdf file that you can look at or download.

Yeah. Solid population of grass bass up there along with other misc. rockfish such as Browns and even baby reds surprisingly. But, if and when I get up there I'll be hitting deeper spots.

I go there quite often and I always launch from Kiddie beach. There's a parking lot right next to it. I didn't know you couldn't launch there. oops . I'll probably keep launching there until someone says otherwise.
However just north of kiddie beach I see ppl launching there yaks from the dirt. (no sand along the waterway) |

Years ago hobie beach was covered in sand. Oddly enough people would launch the hobie cats off that beach. Not sure where the sand went and when it disappeared as I just moved back there area a few years ago. |

The boat ramp was nice.
Got there a little after 6:30 and the weather was ok. No wind a little cloudy. On the water by 7:00. Started making my way out to main and channel. I could see wind was picking up so I turned around and went back towards Mandalay Bay Area. Just paddled around for an hour. |
