Dana Point Black Friday 11/27
Went out of Dana Point harbor around 8am, water 65 degrees, slightly breezy. Took my father in law out on my Hobie Outfitter Tandem. We got out behind the long breaker and I hooked a baby Halibut, then 2 times had something big pulling my drag before finally breaking the hook free. Bummed out, got sea sick after re-tying the rig. Decided to head back into the harbor to calmer water. Just inside the harbor near the 5mph bouys I decide to throw a plastic out. Let it sink to the bottom and started to drift it. Few seconds later I get a hookup! Hardly much fight at first but as soon as I saw what it was it took a dive. Looked to me like a legal Halibut! After a few minutes of it circling the boat, my father in law got it in the net and we landed it. Turned out to be 28", my first legal halibut off the kayak! I was stoked! Felt great after losing whatever broke off out there. Can't wait to get back there! |

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Loving Dana point this week. Wednesday scored 4 legal lobsters and Friday my first Halibut. Had a great Thanksgiving. Hope to get back there soon.

Good job, bro. I've never caught anything good inside DP Harbor like you just did. Good stuff.
