I don't know the Dana area well but I can throw a few things your way. If I'm fishing near kelp I like to use line heavy enough to not break off in the kelp. 20 will do it usually. Chovies are great baits cause every thing eats them. And chovies are not great baits for larger fish cause every thing eats them. To target yt, wsb, or bigger halibut you're better off catching mackerel for bait. If the bait receiver has bigger sardines they'll work better than chovies. If you're fishing bigger baits for bigger fish ditch the 20 lb n go with 30 or even 40. Mike

I like to use 60 lb braid "moss green color" to a 40lb fluro leader. Get a few sabikis and make some bait. Macks are the way to go. Goodluck!

I usually have luck getting my bait right outside of the harbor (just a bit south, near the two white buoys). Loaded up 5+ macs pretty quick the last couple of times I fished DP. Good luck.

Thanks for the info.
Picked up live bat at the marina. All they had was mac's so oh well tried it anyway. Went out to the red bouy dropped off lobster pots. Went straight West to about a depth of 50' Cought a small bonita. Went back in about mid day no lobsters. The bonita was good tasting when I got home |
