YFT and wahoo from the kayak!

Had a great weekend to remember here in mainland Japan last weekend. First trips out in my new Hobie Outback, was time to set the 2003 Outback to the side. Wahoo are a rare catch in this area even by boat. Please enjoy the video and feel free to share.

Tackle description in the video description.

Thanks guys. This is in Sagami Bay, not too far from Tokyo.

I've not lost a rod yet... but on the troll may end up leashing them. Not sure I trust the rod holders. Have yet to capsize, but never say never.

Japan is truly loaded with fish. Envious! I don't think leashing your rods is a big deal. You'll be really glad you did when it saves you that $1000 set-up.

This is a very, very rare chance for this area. Maybe once in a lifetime, but we'll see. Mahi are plentiful, but the tuna are usually too far out, and only here for a couple months. Did pick some leashes up though just in case....

Normally though I don't like bothering with the leashes. I dont surf launch so much lower risk of capsizing.

Dude, pretty impressive gaff work with the tuna! Also noticed you didn't crack a smile until the tuna was in your lap. I think I would have been ear-to-ear after that wahoo.

Awesome catches, Congrats ! Being how much the Japanese love fish, I would have thought that their waters are fished pretty hard/picked clean -- surprised to see big catches like that right off the coast near a major population...and you caught them on rapalas....not even live bait....outstanding !

Ridiculously good! Stoked for you. You're catching dream fish for the majority of the population right there. I throw and troll rapala's frequently, so this post here is just motivating. That's a great looking bay to fish.

A lot of people are under the same assumption and I don't know why. They eat a lot of fish but they eat the whole fish. The only thing that's really overfished is bluefin tuna but that's world wide.

Thanks guys. One of the yellowtail this weekend hit the X-Rap. They definitely work. I noticed my older ones have pretty bad internal rust problems though, so bad the wire rusted through and hook fell off one of my 30 Magnums. They work well but be prepared to change them out even after washing them. The lure I got the yellowfin on has water inside.

The new rod leashes worked great for trolling, made for good hook holders on the big lures too!
