YT wound?

Did a little Happy hour sesh on the pond tonight. Fun out there. Got a nice yellow on flylined mac. After I gaffed and cut the gills, I noticed this wound on the side of its stomach. I haven't caught it up yet. Its just sitting on ice. I was wondering if anyone had seen this before. If so, do you know what it is? I'm guessing some type of parasite/infection. I'm a bit weary on eating it right now, but again I haven't cut it up and don't know what the meat looks like.

I caught on once before that had an oval mark similar in shape but no puncture marks. It was further back on the fish. On the inside it was fine and just looked like it had healed and was not too much deeper than just the skin. I though it looked like something had tried to take a bite out of it.

vampire?

Looks a little like a lamprey bite, too oval though. Cut that piece out and throw it away. Cook the fish it should be fine.

that was my first thought too. It's too square to be one and looks far too big as well but that could be just how the picture portrays it. We do have them here but I would expect the yellowtail to eat the lamprey once it spots it. It could be an old wound from an escaped gaff. So long as the gaff does not Peirce any major organs I would think most fish if they were healthy to begin with could survive.

Serious? That would be pretty coincidental. It looked fresh. I saw a couple divers right on the edge of the kelp as I was paddling out around 5pm. Can't believe he would still be charging bait after being shot in the stomach... Tough sons of bitches.

Nobody guessed it. I just cut it up and this is what I saw. This thing was attached to its stomach. Gnarly. Now does anyone know what the hell it is? The meat looked perfect though.... Have a lot of people to feed on Saturday. Might it be good cooked? Freeze first? Any thoughts?

I'd err on the side of caution on that one. Looks like a wound with internal parasite that grew big. My opinion is that the meat is infected, small parasites you can't see are the ones that can ruin your GI tract.
