Not sure if I mentioned this to you, but was looking at it as an option instead of drilling.. Saw this on another board and looked interesting..
Only concern they had expressed was if it would not rotate with the pressure of trolling or eventually getting bit.. Even when it's tightened.. Would love to hear if anyone has any experience or I could just be a lab rat and test it.... |

Would/could HOBIE repair the damage if the ball mount is screwed too tight and cracks/splits the molded rod holders?

nope, but that is a great idea to avoid drilling into the hull, no?
Might pick one up. |

I've wondered if these work too. I need to convert my Scotty flush mount to a ram ball mount

That'd be perfect for my electronics on my outback. I haven't mounted yet, that would allow me to use one of the front rod holders

Is it going to be to high ?
If placed inside the black hobie rod extender . One option might be cutting it down . The hobie rod extenders are great , other than the fact that your line will always find your rudder because the angle does some seem to work for trolling . Can anyone comment on this ? .

No bueno for the Hobie stock mounts, tightened all the way down and still not snug.....................shoots! need some kind of rubber sleeve or something to go in the rod holder to decrease the diameter.

Try some rubber stretch tape (it's non adhesive). You should be able to find some in Lowe's or Home Depot.

I did see someone take the rubber band and move it lower to create a more snug fit.. Not sure if this was the same product..

I find it funny that a factory rod holder needs an adapter to fit another rod holder

RAM made this to fit the majority of flushmounts on multiple brand kayaks. I think they would be smart to market one specifically for Hobie Kayaks, specifically the front rod holders on the Outback. Hobie molded in rod holders have always been the exception in greater diameter. It looks like the o ring can be moved to the other shallower groove to fit Hobie............stand by.
Not as snug as I would like it to be.
