SD Bay tomorrow

Anyone been out to Shelter Island today? I want to go for halibut but my last visit to the bait receiver yielded monster mackerel (last Monday). I actually was able to BBQ a handful of them they were so big! Yes, I do like mackerel (good Portuguese girl..). Anyone want to go tomorrow? I could even be talked into LJ if someone would go with me!

I was out there Saturday, kind of slow, managed to get a couple of 12" sculpin and a couple of bass for the day. Did get smacked hard on the ultra light, broke off though.

Windy, cold, but the water seemed warm. Bait barge had pinhead chovies, not good for bait.

bait

Hi Dave!

Yeah, pinheads today too. Bait lately is too big or too small. Over the years, we have become very spoiled with the beautiful sardines. Hopefully they will be back, but you know how these things go. I ended up today with two baby halibut, successfully released in spite of them trying to inhale the small bait. A handful of bass on plastics. That was fun. Windy but warm. Not a lot of traffic on the water. I was deflated when I saw the bait!

Yeah, not even worth buying the pinheads, except maybe for chum. Sounds like you did pretty good though.

Do you use circle hooks?
