Heads up! HDS-5 Gen 2 on sale
I returned a Elite 5 DSI after 3-4 months of use, told them I wasn't satisfied, and they let me return it, upgrade to a HDS-5, and just pay the difference. I would also look at the extended warranty.

Looked on their website and it was 599.00 Still a good deal, but not as good as the one you found.

I just typed in lowrance hds 5 gen 2 search and came up with a Cabela's reconditioned for $419. I don't know what the warranty is. I have bought from West Marine before, they make you feel pretty safe with there return and extra warranty pkg.
Hope this helps. |

Edit: It's a Friday special so the $449 price will show up tomorrow only http://westmarine.com/network-combos..._-140313-_-_N2

So what's the main difference between this unit and the DSI unit? Given I mostly fish ocean and deep between 40 to 300 feet.

Hds5
This was in my email this morning. Hopefully some can get in on this one day sale. In stores, online, and with transducer (50/200).

Just talked to folks at west marine and figured out difference. Basically going to wait for elite HDI as that has both DSI and sonar build into one whereas HDS just has sonar. Seems for the type of fishing I do that makes more sense.

im quite fond of the ramball in the sail mast. no side interference while fishing/launching/landing
plus if its in reach im always fiddling instead of fishing

Glad some got on the deal. I'll second the sail mount. Out of the way leaving the rails free for everything else.
