We've done it on my buddy's boat whil salmon fishing. It wasn't even the water. We had it in the air. Even a bigger black and white flag works. Lol they ain't that smart but they do catch on no they really are smart the bastards. They were talking about having an open season up in The Klamath area for the natives and reservations. Wonder if they ever did that. Is live to shoot one.

I watched a documentary on them and there's a local pod that lives in the waters off LA and a pod up in Monterey so they are around. Would be funny if a inflatable worked.

I did see an orca off point loma area a few years back when out on a boat. Rare, but here.

Yes there is a LA pod!!! They travel far north as the Farallon Islands and south to the tip of Baja. I think this is the same pod that killed a Great White at the Farallon's a few years back.

You know I don't blame the seals for disliking orcas. If I had to choose between a great white and a pod of orcas while on a yak I would choose the shark in a heartbeat. Knowing how orcas hunt seals on floating ice....

Some black and white spray paint for your yak should do the trick. You can even add a set of those big teeth decals

If I was buying a new yak, and it was offered in black and white orca-flage, I would totally pick that color scheme. |

orcas?
Seen them 2 yrs ago off moonlight bch, about 2-4 miles out with my Nikon 12pwr binocs.Probably around 10 of them circling around and meandering/playing.Had to be them as fins were 5-6ft tall to be seen at such a distance.Seen false killers at Seaworld last year and were nowhere as big.Always scanning the surf during fishing season.Even seen a white seabass cruising in the surf zone from 60ft up on the bluff once.Same spot where i look offshore,60+ high on bluff, hence long distance view.
