LJ 8/9

Sorry for late report! At launch before first light but could tell swell
was pumping. When we could see I asked my boy if he wanted to
hit the bay he said no! He dumped on the launch, nothing lost. I punched through
a solid 4' face but made it. Tons of bait, made perfect Spanish macks,
got a 3# green back on a surface iron and I was getting 4 to 6 bonito
at a time on the sabiki. 6 to 8 incher's, beautiful bait. It was pretty bumpy, the lad was sick by 8:30 in by 9:30 or 10. No game fish but
looked fishy. New Seaforth reported a for am run!!! Played
in the surf, after we unloaded. It was one of the biggest days I've seen
there!

Haven't seen bonita of any size in LJ for maybe years. I don't want to sound like an a-hole but are you sure they were bonito?

Thanks, Mike

i've never caught a Bonie in LJ under around 15", nor any ever on a Sabiki.

but i have caught many 15" to 36" Bones in LJ over the years, mostly on Krocodiles, Megabaits, Castmasters, etc.

last time i caught some, was 2010 or 2011, but only a FEW occasionally.

in 2004-07 or so, i used to catch MANY, almost every outing in LJ.

i really enjoy catching the 24" to 36" size bones casting Krocodiles on med sized gear. great action !!!

I ran into multiple flurries of em yesterday. These are the smallest bonitos I've ever seen and they were fiesty. I threw the raider jig and couldnt wind fast enough. All were candy bar to footlong sized. Bring out the ultralights! Hope its a sign for good years to come.

The small ones are not good eats, but they make excellent Bug bait...

Not to be an ass, or stir up conflict, Scoot, but do you realize whether for eats or bait, you can only keep 5 of that size in a day. They have been so non-existent over the last couple decades, the little guys like that should be released (except for the 5). Keeping any over that isn't going to bring the boneheads back to their previous good population. Ones that size, though, are one of the best WSB bait.

Hey Scoot

Yeah, I wasn't trying to accuse you, just thought I'd inform you, as some people don't know all the regs. When you said "You got over 15", that can be interpreted as kept more than legal. Keep in mind if your tank is full already and you haven't tried it before, pinning a small bonie on right away may be the ticket to a big White.
