7/23 LJ hailmary
Been fishing the recent squid spawn for weeks now. After spending many days, hours, and gas...tanks full of live squid and not one bite. My fellow yaker buddies sending me motivational fish porn, I always seemed to be out between bites. I found it more amusing than frustrating, can't beat being on the water anyway. I got off work at 9am, pulled myself together around noon and headed down to the launch. As I arrived, I see some yakers landing with some added weight Thought damn...another day late dollar short. Wind was picking up, around 10-15mph. Water looked choppy and nasty. F**K it, I'm going for it. On the water by 1pm, My temp read 68-71. Green choppy water, mild current pulling north/east. I had trouble making live squid at this time, but brought a bag o' fresh dead from the past weeks. Set up with dropper loop on 40# fluro, 8oz weight, size 6 ahi twist hook. About 530pm I phoned a friend to give him an OTW report, I was literally in the process of telling him that there wasn't much going on in the afternoon when ZZZZZZ my rod loads up! (90ft of water) No one else around me, I had the whole ocean to myself to After some awesome runs I bring her up A private boater came by as I decked her, gave him some info and he offered me live squid . I fished live for another hour and called it quits, stoked to wash off the skunk! 40'' fork, 22'' girth. She felt 25-30lb. Stoked I guess moral this report is: go with your gut and don't get discouraged. |
