Since I thought I had the timing figured out, I waited for a late launch to get into the sunset bite (and to watch the wind die down, which it did not). Launched at 5:30PM into choppy seas. Didn't even bother with bait till outside the hotel. Ran over some tails on the way out, but they didn't go after the rapala. Start making bait when, whammo, sabiki is hit hard. Make some quick progress so I'm thinking little yellow. Get to my last color (about 30ft) when the fish decides to reveal his true nature and promptly peels off all my colors+ (150ft). Amazingly, I'm still on and though he's into the kelp I start to think I might actually pull this off. Not. Sabiki pops in half. Oh well, fun fight and all before I even caught a bait.

Unfortuantely, that was it. Saw several spots of fish deep in the kelp but couldn't get them on iron and nothing touched the big spanish I trolled. Stayed out past the hotel into darkness, then head in. Some big splashes occurred on the way in, maybe dolphins, one sounded sharky, but with the chop it was hard to hear cleanly. Got a little spooked since I was pretty sure I was not the only 6ft long creature out there and there were some very large biolum bursts around me. Ugly evening but there were fish to be caught, I just didn't do it. May try Thur AM for the flat stuff that seems to be all the rage these days.
