Do it old school engineer style... draw it on paper, take your measurements, create a prototype with cardboard and a hot glue gun. If you're impatient, just buy the piping and connectors and friction-fit everything before cementing.
Also, get a heat gun and some beer bottles to form-fit the ends of the rod-holders. We'd love to see your plans on a diagram! |

2 inch diameter pvc pipe. Don't forget the leashes. I use the 1/8th inch bungee cord and a orange cable clamp.

Looks good. Make sure you secure the back tightly so that the weight of the loaded rods don't shift the frame.
Also, consider a swivel-type extension to your last set of rod holders closest to your seat so that it can rotate for easy reach... sort of like an arm that can swing 180 degrees from back to front that will make it easier to reach without having to turn around. God bless plastics! |

Chris, You know I love to death ....
But I fall short of seeing the major gain here You gave up 2 holders to gain 8. So you're at +6 You can easily put 4 tubes on your bait tank if you don't already have them there. So you're really +2 Much more compact and easier to reach Your boat has 6 Horizontal rod holders... I think you did a clean job, I just have a feeling a few trips with it and you're going to give it up. Sorrrry |

my current bait tank wont accept rod holders due to the angle of the side (id have 4 crossed swords). naturally that would have been my first choice. i also had it made out to where the tube angled in and sorta wrapped around the back of the bait tank and i had 6 holders all together. it looked good and conventional but also took up deck space, which im not sure ill need or not. I like experimenting and finding out whats right by trial and error. if i don't like it after a while then ill only have my self to kick and ill just hack away at some more PVC... or go buy that big vittles container i want and put some rod holders on it.
